In the “2012 ICANN new gTLD application round” countless brands applied for their own gTLD - and some are now starting to abandon their “.com” domains and do ONLY use their vanity brand gTLD-based domains:
canon.com reroutes to global.canon
Imagine to be one of the first airports to operatetheir own gTLD. Like “.lax” - making available domains like:
www.departures.lax
www.arrivals.lax
www.terminalmaps.lax
www.parking.lax
www.shopping.lax
and of course for your brands at the airport:
hertz.lax / budget.lax
armani.lax / gucci.lax
We will aid 5 to 10 airports in applying and managing / operating their vanity gTLD. The group of airports will pool resources:
Only one application has to be crafted (300 pages application to ICANN)
Legal and technical consulting will be shared
ICANN compliance and representation
only one registry back-end provider for all members (equals much better conditions in pricing per domain)
We will handle absolutely all steps from the application creation, to application submission at ICANN, contracting with ICANN, dealing with the back-end registry provider, testing and launch of the gTLD.
We will also create a simple to use tool that will allow to enter any desired domain name (e.g. departures.lax) and an existing “target” (website), e.g.: flylax.com/en/flight-search-list?type=dep, the tool will automatically create the domain in the registry and create the forwarder: a domain departures.lax would be created - and it would route to the specified (already existing) website.
That way none of your existing systems or websites have to be changed - you just add “new doors” (domain names) - to existing “rooms (websites). And you would be one of the first airports on the globe to have their own domain suffix!
Here some brands that applied for their gTLD in 2012:
