dotDENVER – Domain Names for Denver
Trust, Identity, Intuitive Visibility
dotDENVER, LLC will submit an application for the domain extension ‘.denver’. Internet domain names like ‘www.visit.denver‘, ‘www.downtown.denver‘ or ‘www.10barrel.denver‘ will become available to relevant Denver based entities by 2026/2027 (depending on the actual ICANN application timeline; which might shift).
dotDENVER, LLC is a Denver stakeholder-group funded, owned & governed, public-benefit, non-profit effort to secure the domain extension ‘.denver’. All domain name owners will be authenticated by relevant business associations or our own authentication provider. ‘.denver’ domains will serve as trust label for aiding the Internet user to more easily & intuitively identify websites of Denver based entities; thus creating trust, identity and intuitive visibility.
In order to create a “trend” for .denver domain names in Denver with both the Internet User and prospective registrants (e.g. businesses) and in order to make sure that community & business relevant domains stay not only in Denver but will be assigned to appropriate entities we will:
Reserve all community relevant domains like visit.denver, fire.denver, dmv.denver or gov.denver and assign them to the relevant entities only! Until being claimed by the relevant entities these domains will go online with an automated page providing a link to the relevant offcial website! This way ‘.denver’ domain names will become intuitive short names: memorable and trustworthy!
‘fire.denver’ is so much easier than denvergov.org/content/denvergov/en/fire-department-home.html
’sheriff.denver’ is much easier than denvergov.org/content/denvergov/en/sheriff.html
Imagine hundreds of similar domains serving as “index” to intuitively access community relevant services and websites? And that independent of the fact whether the domains actually have been claimed or not: we make sure the Denver Internet User will find what they are looking for.Allow all Denver businesses to claim “their” (exact match) business name as .denver domain FOR FREE for 3 to 5 years! Exception: generic dictionary keywords. Chambers & business associations will serve as authentication partners to ensure that this offer to claim “free domain names” won’t be abused.
Let business associations define specific keyword-based domain names that are of impact for their members; and make sure these domains not only stay in Denver but will also stay WITHIN the relevant business sector. ‘dentist.denver’ should NOT be operated by an insurance agent who tries to monetize the traffic on the domain in order to sell dental health care plans: the Internet User is rather interested in finding a dentistry at dentist.denver!
dotDENVER, LLC will be owned by a sizeable number of Denver constituents, e.g. chambers, associations and leading businesses. Ownership doesn’t yield any profits: as dotDENVER is a non-profit, public-benefit; but ownership provides the opportunity to shape the policies of the project. A broad ownership distribution is the best guarantee for true community input. The dotDENVER project will have a policy board which will oversee all policy making. Denver is a thriving community - partly because it is well organized and managed. ‘.denver’ should mirror the real Denver: online! And as the real Denver it will need to be well managed and organized.
The main narratives for the project are:
Creating benefit for the Denver Internet User
Creating benefit for the Denver Business Community by promoting local business (“Don't Just Buy American, Buy Local”)
Promoting Denver locally, regionally, nationally and internationally and making it more attractive for locals, visitors, investors and people who might chose Denver as their new home.
